CROSS, SC (WCSC) - Authorities in Cross are investigating after thieves stole an SUV outside the home of a disabled veteran over the weekend.

The victim, Larry Gatie says he was asleep when the crooks took his 2004 Saturn Vue late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

How can somebody just do that is beyond me," Gatie said."What's hard to believe, it's way out in the middle of nowhere in Cross. It's a long way out."

GGatiesays the vehicle is the only transportation he has to get to the VA hospital in Charleston. He also says the SUV was a gift to him from his mother who died of cancer.

"Inside it I got things that are from my mother's funeral," Gatie said.

The stolen vehicle is red and has a Boston Red Sox license plate on the front.

Anyone with information should call the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office at (843) 202-1700.
