HOLLYWOOD, SC (WCSC) -

A 7-year-old elementary school student was suspended for three days after he brought a BB-gun on to his school bus on Thursday morning, according to a school district spokesperson.

The student, who attends Minnie Hughes Elementary School in Hollywood, brought the gun on the bus and an older student took it away from him, according to Charleston Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson. That student turned the gun over to the bus driver, Watson said.

The student was charged by the sheriff's office through a custodial promise for "carrying a weapon on school property" and "interfering with a school," Watson said. A custodial promise is a legal process for juveniles in which the child's parent or guardian signs a document promising to bring the child to family court.

The juvenile was released back to his legal guardian.
