Golf tournament to help the Lee County Animal Shelter

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -    Grand Island golf course is hosting a golf tournament to raise money to help dogs at the Lee County Animal Shelter beat the heat.

Exercise areas behind the shelter are uncovered.  So dogs are exposed to the sun or rain when they're let out to play.

Grand Island will host the Critter Classic Golf Tournament September 5th to raise money to build an awning over the exercise yards. Officials say the golfers are thrilled to be helping the shelter.

Grand Island General Manager Page Langley said "Most have animals and lots of those are rescue animals.  This is something that was kind of dear to everybody involved.  We thought what a better thing to do than actually be able to host a tournament for the shelter."

The four person scramble will cost $60  per player,
