Man charged with homicide in fatal crash

DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

A man has been indicted for his role in a crash between a tractor trailer and an ambulance last June.

Rockwell Brandon Lott has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree.

Two paramedics and one patient were killed in the accident on GA 32 just outside Douglas.

44-year-old Teresa Davis and 56-year-old Randall Whiddon were traveling east, transporting a patient to Coffee Regional Medical Center.

Investigators said a sedan traveling west pulled to the side of the road to yield to the ambulance.

A tractor trailer behind the car then jack-knifed across the center line into the path of the ambulance.

Investigators say the ambulance then struck the left side of the trailer, killing the EMTs and their patient, 65-year-old Charles Smith.

Lott, who was driving the truck, suffered minor injuries.
