BCSO searching for suspect in Hilton Head Suntrust bank robbery

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery that occurred Tuesday afternoon at a bank on the north end of Hilton Head Island.

Just after 3:15 p.m., deputies responded to the Sun Trust bank located at 1 Lafayette Place in reference to a robbery occurring moments earlier.

Upon arrival, bank employees reported that an unknown black male had entered the bank, jumped over the counter and demanded money.

After stealing an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the bank and was last seen running towards the nearby Festival Center complex. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Investigators are on scene and the bank will be remain closed until further notice.

Members of the Sheriff's Office K-9 Tracking Team are currently searching the area for the suspect who is described as a black male of stocky build between 30-39 years of age, approximately 5'08" in height.

He was last seen wearing a white polo shirt with blue stripes and a blue baseball cap with a gold "W" on the front. He also had what appeared to be medical bandages over his left eye and another bandage on his left arm.

The suspect did not brandish a weapon during the robbery, however, it is unknown if he may be armed.

Citizens are asked to restrict travel in the immediate area of Festival Center to essential traffic only, and motorists are asked to drive cautiously as deputies are actively searching the area.

Any sightings of suspicious person(s) should be reported immediately through 911.
