Savannah White Cane Committee holds Dining in the Dark

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah White Cane Committee hosted Dining in the Dark on Monday night.

The event will benefit White Cane Safety Day on Oct. 15.

On Monday night guests got the opportunity to see what it's like to eat a meal without sight.

"It's all auditory, sense of smell, feeling, but it's lack of sight," said Savannah White Cane Day Committee Co-chair David M. Newman. "It's also an education, in part to get people to see how things are with those of us that are totaling blind and visually impaired."

White Cane Safety Days is set aside each year to celebrate the achievements of people who are visually impaired and the importance as a symbol of blindness and a tool of independence with white canes and guide dogs.
