ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A county landfill worker is lucky to walk away after the brakes went out on the pan scraper he was driving.
Leon Drake was coming down this hill at the Dougherty County Landfill when he lost control. He crossed the road before going airborne and overturning into a ditch about fifty feet deep.
Rescue crews worked for close to an hour before finally being able get Drake to safety. Drake is in good condition, but one official says it's not a call they normally get.
"We have to utilize what we learned to adjust and adapt to each individual situation," said Battalion Chief Matthew Jefferson. "No two situations are the same, and this was one where we had to use and combine our different skills that we learned over the years to put into play."
One firefighter was treated after a blood pressure drop in the hot weather. Officials believe they will need a crane to get the heavy piece of machinery out of the ditch.
