Funeral held for Douglas County football player in New Jersey

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Funeral services were held in New Jersey on Monday for a Douglas County High School football player who died during football practice.

Douglas County High School football players gathered on Saturday to say goodbye to 17-year-old Zyrees Oliver.

"Today is about a young man who has gone home to be with the Lord," said Jason Respert, his coach.

Zyrees died after his aunt said he drank two gallons of water and two gallons of Gatorade during practice.

Doctors said Zyrees' brain swelled. His parents decided to take him off life support.

"If we want the best for our kids, we should have nurses in schools," said Patrick Hopson, a concerned parent.

Zyrees' family would not talk to CBS46 at the advice of their attorney.
