Scam warning from Georgia Power

Georgia Power Scam Warning Georgia Power Scam Warning
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Georgia Power is warning residents about a new scam hitting their customers.

Criminals have called customers in the past asking for credit card information or for customers to purchase a pre-paid card then give them the number in order to avoid their power being shut off.

Georgia power officials say now criminals are meeting customers face to face.

Jay Smith from Georgia Power says “the criminals are actually going out in the field and asking for cash payment so they are either visiting their home or business or asking them to meet somewhere other than a Georgia Power location."

Smith says Georgia Power employees will always be in uniform and have identification.

If you do receive a call by someone, demanding payment call your local Georgia Power and police.
