ADEL, GA (WALB) - Adel Police and the GBI continue to search for the person who shot and killed one man and injured another.

Yolanda Scruggs heard the shooting that happened at her housing complex just after 10:30 Tuesday night. "I was in my bedroom and I heard three gunshots, like 'pow, pow, pow.' Then, I got up and went in my daughter's room to check on her."

Once she made sure her daughter was safe, she went outside to see what was going on. "When I came to the front door, my cousin was at this end right here and she was like, 'somebody got shot! They down there, they down there!"

She then quickly called 911. "Upon arrival, officers located Edward James Ferguson, of Adel, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Officers preformed life saving maneuvers on Mr. Ferguson, who was transported to Cook Medical center by EMS where he passed away a short time later." said Maj. Audie Rowe of the Adel Police Department.

Ferguson's younger brother 18-year-old Anthony Hill was also shot multiple times. "He was runnin' to go get help, sayin' 'my brother, they shot my brother! Help me, help me!'"

Hill was taken to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta and then transferred to another hospital. Police are not releasing the name of that hospital out of safety concerns for Hill.

Scruggs says Ferguson and Hill were both well liked among the residents at the housing complex. "34 nor his brother, neither one bothered with anybody. They would come through, they would dance. My niece and my baby would dance with him."

Scruggs appreciates the response of Adel Police Sergeant Paul Turner. He was the first to arrive and immediately began trying to save Ferguson's life.

So far no suspects or motive have been determined. Call the Adel Police Department or the GBI office in Douglas if you have any information.
