Doctors: Adults need vaccines too

Now that kids are up to date on back-to-school immunizations, health officials say it's the parents' turn.

August is Immunization month. With diseases like Pertussis on-the-rise through the years in Southwest Georgia, experts say it's important adults get their recommended vaccines. They say patients often don't know that immunizations are also needed after school years and into adulthood.

" Any of our vaccines for preventable diseases, you can be a healthy adult and still get the vaccines to help protect everyone around you," said District Immunization Coordinator Rebecca Snow, Southwest Public Health District.

If you aren't sure about what immunizations are available for you or your child, contact the health department or a healthcare provider.
