Now that the freshman are moved in to their dorms at Valdosta State University, the university is trying to help get them excited for the 2014-2015 school year.

VSU held a freshman convocation ceremony Thursday morning for the first time in several years. Afterwards, the students gathered outside near the P.E. complex to form a large number 18, representing the year they'll graduate.

Convocation speaker, Arel Moodie, a nationally recognized motivational speaker and founder of The College Success Program, said he wanted to encourage students to turn their knowledge into action.

"As long as we decide, we learn, and then most importantly, the third step is to jump. To jump means taking action, said Moodie," referring to the three main points from his speech. "We have to apply what we learn and that's jumping and taking action."

Upperclassmen at VSU will begin moving in on Friday. Classes at VSU start August 18th.
