Albany residents react to viral video of child being shoved

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A lot of people are outraged by this video, showing a child being shoved during a comedic stunt posted to Facebook.

It went viral, quickly, and most people we spoke with don't think it was very funny.

“Are you serious? He hit a child,” said Clarence Ealey.

“I mean that's not a very good joke. I don't think it's funny,” said Teri Bruner

“Well there's nothing funny about that,” said Sherry Banghart.

Those are reactions around town after seeing the video of Contralus Brown shoving a small child.

"Even if it's a hoax or even if it's just playing around, you don't do that with children, with babies. I mean I have kids. I would never put my child through that," said Clarence Ealey.

The video is only 12 seconds, but the punishment could last much longer.

Although it was intended to be a parody, most agree the video took things too far.

"The child doesn't understand that it's a joke. I'm sure he was laying on the ground crying and they just went on making a video," said Teri Bruner.

"He can stand in front of a judge and say oh it was just playing around. There's extremes and measures for how you play around with children and that's not one of them," said Ealey.

Brown has been receiving a lot of support from friends on his Facebook page, but we couldn't get a hold of any of them to defend him.

One woman did tell us arresting the people in the video was extreme.

"If it was a joke and they kind of knew they were playing maybe not as far as being arrested as long as the child wasn't injured," said Judy Tyson.

Police say the child in the video is fine.
