Some people who thought they were headed to a beach vacation really lost $850. Dougherty County Police arrested Kelley Kierce and charged him with theft by deception after they say he scammed people with fake ads for beach condos.
Kierce posted places on Facebook that were available to rent; except they weren't real places or they had fake keys.
Authorities want people to take one more step before falling for a Facebook scam.
“Something that we want the public to do--do a background check. Call the federal business bureau, check tax assessors in the town. Do some background check even if it's a person that you know before you give your money out,” said Dougherty County Police Detective Tamiko Whitlock.
Whitlock expects other victims will come forward. If you're one of them, you are encouraged to call the Dougherty County Police Department.
