LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

Family and friends are raising money for a Lee County teenager suffering from a rare brain tumor. 15-year-old Haley Walley is fighting everyday, and her family wants others to be aware of her condition.

15-year-old Haley Walley is a fighter and has the support of her family as she battles a growing and rare brain tumor known as Diffused Pontine Glioma.

"I'm fighting hard, like my daddy says, I'm fighting like I'm a Marine,” said Haley Walley, cancer patient.

Haley's mom began noticing changes in her daughter's bubbly personality earlier this year.

"I knew because you don't lose facial expressions and you don't lose the ability to smile,” said Rachel Walley, Haley’s Mom.

Medication caused Haley to gain weight and left marks on her arms.

"I have to take all this medicine and it makes me bloated and swollen and all this,” said Haley.

She gets frequent headaches and has a hard time sleeping. Doctors gave her up to a year to live.

"When I was told that, all of my emotions just stopped,” said Austin Walley, Haley’s Brother. “I didn't know what to do."

Folks at Lee County Middle School East made and sold t-shirts for Haley. She's also received support from churches and other organizations.

"To those who have shown an outpouring of support via it financially or through prayer from the bottom of our hearts thank you so much, and please keep it up," said George Walley, Haley’s Dad.

Family and friends collected more than 20,000 soda tabs to help pay for a place for them to stay at Shands Hospital in Florida. They also want to set up a 5K run and a foundation to bring awareness of Haley's condition.

"If this does turn for the worst, with her she can still go on with her dreams of wanting to help people, wanting to help children,” said Rachel Walley.

"Thank you for all the support,” said Haley Walley.

Family members hope to raise $10,000 for Haley's medical expenses. The Walley family will have a car wash Saturday, August 16th at Brown Detherage Insurors at the corner of North Slappey Blvd and Spring Lake Drive from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can help Haley by clicking here or here.
