Civil rights pioneer remembered

A civil rights trailblazer was remembered Tuesday night at the Albany Civil Rights Institute.

Tuesday would have been Mary Frances Jenkins' 86th birthday. She died last Thursday.

Jenkins was active in the Albany Movement more than 50 years ago and helped establish the Civil Rights Institute.

Her husband was pleased so many people came out to celebrate her legacy. "The people of the community came out to really show their respect and their interest of her, some of the things that she has done in the community in her lifetime," Adrian Jenkins said.

Mrs. Jenkins was also active with the Dream Awards which are given out each year at the community Martin Luther King, Junior celebration.
