New book details civil rights movement

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new book about the struggle for civil rights in southwest Georgia is now on sale at the Civil Rights Institute.

Former museum director Dr. Lee Formwalt spent years researching and writing the book called "Looking Back, Moving Forward: The Southwest Georgia Freedom Struggle 1814-2014."

The current museum director says it's a great history lesson about the Albany Movement and important events before it and after it.

"It's very well-written. I think Dr. Formwalt did a very good job in capturing that period of time. It's something that people can pass down to their children. It's a very good historical document," says Frank Wilson, ACRI Executive Director.

You can buy the book at the Albany Civil Rights Institute.

And proceeds from sales will benefit the museum.
