Rural internet service expanding

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A public authority that provides high speed internet service to seven rural south Georgia counties is expanding with a partnership with Albany Water Gas and Light.

The South Georgia Regional Information Technology Authority is about to start construction on 140 miles of fiber optic cable that will connect to WG&L's network.

SGRITA won't be able to provide internet service in Dougherty County, but the project will allow it to expand its coverage and provide more reliable service in the counties it does serve which are Baker, Calhoun, Early, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole and Terrell.

It could also help WG&L expand its internet service.
