VPD offering service to business owners leaving late at night
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -
Valdosta Police are encouraging business owners to call police if they don't feel safe when they're locking up at night.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, the owner of the El Toreo restaurant on Gornto Road was leaving for the night after closing up when two black men ran up to him and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. He was able to run away, but police remind people that officer are available to help prevent situations like this.
"If you're closin' up late at night and you feel it's unsafe being outside or walking to your car, you can contact the dispatch center and they'll send an officer; an available officer will come out and stand by while you get to your car," said Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk.
WALB reached out to the owner for a comment Friday, but he declined to comment.
The suspects in Thursday morning's attempted robbery are still on the loose. Call Valdosta Police if you have any information.
