Lee County schools host open house

Lee County students and parents got a head start on the first day of school with a open house Thursday. Officials say it's important for kids to be in school tomorrow even though it's right before the weekend.

"There's a lot of things that have to take place on the first day of school, as far as books and supplies, getting students numbers for lunch room and all that kind of stuff," said School Superintendent Dr. Lawrence Walters. "All of that is done on a Friday. When they come back on Monday, everything goes from there."

Dr. Walters expects the Lee County system will have a record number of students this year.
