Albany Airport construction to affect parking lots

With the old terminal at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport torn down, the final phase of the airport's improvement project can begin.

Next week workers are expected to install sewer pipes near the north parking lot adjacent to a walkway many people use.

Airport officials are asking travelers to avoid parking there and walking along terminal drive to the airport.

They want drivers to watch out for construction workers and pedestrians as work continues.

"Park down towards south end where the parking booth is. There's a sidewalk across the street so it will keep them out of the road and keep them safer," said Yvette Aehle.

Parking areas will move throughout the course of the project as a new parking lot is built where the old terminal stood.

The work is expected to be finished by February.
