Cordele native, Austin French is rising in singing competition

CORDELE, GA (WALB) - A Cordele native is close to winning a national signing competition and he needs your votes to make it to the next round.

Kim French is Austin’s music teacher and mother. Austin French is a Top 8 contestant on the ABC show 'Rising Star', with hopes of making it to the semi-finals.

"It's amazing how many people all over the country that we don't even know that are voting for Austin, so that encouraging to find out," said French.

Not only is Austin competing on the show, he got married during the show, Friday August 1.

"He said I don't want to do the show unless I can fly home and get married because I don't want to change that part of my life for the show. They flew him home for his wedding and flew him back," said French.

After the wedding, his wife joined him in California until he finishes the show. A go-fund-me account was set up for the couple.

"It's a fund that's helping them to pay their bills while they are out there and also help Joscelyn have a place to stay," said French.

The 20 year old is making strides on the show. His mother says he's recorded three songs that are now on i-Tunes.

"He's not ashamed of his faith and that he just shares his smile and joy with everyone. No matter what he sings or what interview he does," said French.

Austin French will perform on the show Sunday, June 10.  Click here to donate to Austin and Joscelyn's account.

Coffee County native Joshua Peavy is also still on Rising Star, and there is also a go fund me account to help pay for his family to travel to the final shows.
