Faith-based communities called upon for help

State leaders are encouraging faith-based groups to help those in need. The Ministerial and Faith Community Alliance held a meeting in Albany Thursday.

The interfaith, non-denominational group is an outreach program developed by the Department of Human Services. Meetings like this are being held across the state to try to push the faith community to do more to help vulnerable children and families.

"We've been to three other sites and we've had not had participation like this. And we have so many community leaders here today to talk about what they're doing in their community, but also we have many providers here," said Keith Horton, the Georgia Department of Human Services Commissioner.

Horton says they plan to hold town hall meetings to talk more with the faith-based community about how to move forward with the initiatives that were discussed today.
