Investigators are trying to determine who dumped stolen property in the water. Detectives got a tip to search a certain spot of the Flint River, and divers were able to bring up possible evidence that someone was trying to keep hidden.

Albany Firefighters dive in the Flint River just off the banks at the Marine Base Drainage Ditch. Albany Police called the firefighter's dive team to help them search the water, believing someone had thrown suspected stolen property there.

Albany Police Media Manager Phyllis Banks said "Detectives got some information regarding a tip. It led them here."

Soon the divers recovered at least three cash registers and cash drawers from registers. In several recent burglaries fast moving crooks just grabbed entire cash registers or money drawers out of it, and took off.

Firefighters dived in a pattern, swimming back and forth combing the bottom of the river, and found a number of items. Now they try to determine if they were involved in crimes.

Banks said "Whether it is stolen or not. Where it came from. And that's where we are going to allow the detectives to do their job."

Business burglaries and thefts have plagued a large portion of the community in recent weeks, and police say they need tips from the public to help stop the crimes.

Banks said "This shows the length we will go to follow up on tip information. So we are just encouraging people to call in information."

Albany Police showing those tips are leading to some clues, and asking the community to continue helping them stop business burglaries. The Albany Fire Department dive team was organized last year, to be able to both do water rescues and searches for other first responders.
