Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall comes to Ashburn

ASHBURN, GA (WALB) - The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will come to Ashburn next month.

The mayor and other city officials are working hard to get ready for the big event on September 5th.

As part of the ceremony, Ashburn officials will honor 37 men from Turner, and surrounding counties killed in Vietnam.

There will be several other displays, including a collection called "through the eyes" which is the largest photo collection of Vietnam War photographs.

“Ashburn is a very patriotic community We fly the largest flag in South Georgia its 30 feet by 60 feet, we have annual ceremonies on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, we have a highly active American Legion,” says Ashburn Mayor Jim Hedges.

Vietnam War Veteran and triple amputee Tommy Clack will be the keynote speaker.

The Atlanta Pipe Band and the North Caroline Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association will also be at the event.
