Man sought after Whispering Pines wreck

Albany Police are searching for a driver who crashed into a truck, damaged a yard and then ran away.

A gold 1995 Honda Accord ended up in Wayne Breland's yard after hitting a 2014 Nissan Frontier, causing it to flip over in the middle of Whispering Pines Road Wednesday afternoon. Authorities had to close down a portion of the road as they cleared the scene.

Police say the driver of the Honda ran away, heading south on Queens Road.

Breland says drivers go too fast on that stretch of road in front of his home. "We got lights that are down the street that say 25 mph, but I see a lot of people coming through here going 35, 40 mph, it's a matter of time before it happens again," said resident Breland. "Two years ago there was a bad accident on this side over here by the pine tree, then you get a call and get home and see this here. Makes you wonder if you wouldn't feel safer if they had some kind of guardrails or something up here."

Damage was caused to an aluminum light pole, shrubs and bushes and a street sign. Albany Police say the driver of the Nissan, 63 year-old Phillip Gouff of Leesburg, was not seriously injured.
