WASHINGTON, DC (CBS46) -

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has set up an internal Ebola task force.

According to Claudette Roulo with the Department of Defense, the task force will evaluate how the Department of Defense can support efforts to prevent more people from being infected with the virus.

Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, both Americans, were both transported to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta after being infected with the virus while in Liberia.

They were the first Ebola patients ever transported to the U.S.

There was "no military participation in the movement," according to Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby.

The U.S. Africa Command's operations have not been impacted by the virus, according to Kirby.

"But clearly, we're watching this as closely as everybody else is, and it's an interagency effort here in the United States," Kirby said.

DoD personnel are still in West Africa, but protective equipment has been provided to those testing for the virus, according to a news release.
