State lawmakers set aside funding for downtown improvements

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany will be one of many Georgia cities vying for state money to improve downtown.

During the last legislative session, state lawmakers set aside about 20 million dollars under the Georgia Downtown Renaissance Fund Act.

Downtown Manager Sharlene Cannon says they have a lot of projects on their list to improve downtown... and any additional funding would be a big help.

"We have some really viable projects on the drawing board and our course our number one goal is to entice local businesses downtown and whatever it takes to do that and we want to really choose some people who have some business history," says Downtown Manager Sharlene Cannon.

She says one of the goals is to improve the riverfront area.
