Firefighters urge burn caution

Deputy Chief Rowe Deputy Chief Rowe
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Firefighters say the fire danger is up, and they're asking people to use caution when burning.

Fire officials responded to seven brush fires over the weekend, all involved unauthorized burns.

People were burning yard debris or rubbish in barrels.

Firefighters say even if those burns are legal, the vegetation is dry and fires can easily spread.

“Any kind of situation like that when it's dry, we are always concerned it could spread and possibly catch structures on fire, things of that nature. Cause more damage than they are trying to do,” said AFD Deputy Chief Ron Rowe.

Firefighters urge people to stay with any burns they start until they are out to keep them under control.
