Georgia school system ranked most dangerous in the country

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

On the first day of school in Dougherty County, a new study is released that says Georgia schools are among the most dangerous in the country.

The personal finance website WalletHub ranked each state's education system. Overall, Georgia came in 32nd, but the study says we're dead last in school safety.

"When you look at safety in the school environment, it's ranking is 39th with more than 1 out of 10 kids in grades 9 through 12 reporting that they have been threatened or injured with a weapon on school property,” said Odyseas Papadimitriou, WalletHub CEO.

The safety ranking also took instances of reported bullying into account. The experts only ranked 39 states on safety, saying they didn't have enough information to rate the other states. The study says New Jersey has the best schools and Wisconsin has the safest.
