WG&L touts Albany water

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Following a water crisis in Ohio, Albany Water Gas and Light officials say you should not worry about the quality of our water.

Officials in Toledo now say the water there is safe to drink after a toxic algae formed in Lake Erie affecting the water supply for more than 400,000 people.

Albany's water supply comes from deep underground rivers or aquifers. According to WG&L, it is 99.9% pure. The utility adds fluoride and chlorine.

"Because we have over 600 miles of pipe to get to your home where ever there is a connection we don't want bacteria to invade at that location so we do put chlorine to dissipate any bacteria that should creep in," said Lorie Farkas of Albany WG&L.

Some upgrades were after 911 to ensure the safety of our water supply.
