Sheriff: Parents, don't put officers in a bad light

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -  A public service announcement has been running for a couple of weeks now, and its message to parents is to stop threatening the law on their children.

The Crisp County Sheriff's Office kicked off the campaign so parents can stop telling kids they'll be arrested for mis-behaving.

The office has signs posted near businesses and schools.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock says parents are teaching kids to be afraid of law enforcement. He wants parents to tell their kids they're the good guys.

“Don't tell your child that we're going to lock them up and we're going to haul them off to jail. Tell them, hey, we'll get them to help you and put a positive spin on law enforcement for kids.”

Sheriff Hancock says he hopes kids can learn to trust and respect law enforcement.
