No-show defendant arrested, taken to court

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of Ronald Thomas, who was to have his trial begin in Leesburg.

Thomas was found at his daughter's house on Warrior Court in Albany, and was taken to court in Leesburg. Deputies from Lee and Dougherty County tracked him down and brought him to the courthouse.

Prosecutors say 59 year old Ronald Thomas left a loaded shotgun in his home where playing children got ahold of it, and 10 year old Rickie Jenkins was shot and killed with it in July 2012.

When Thomas did not show up in court for his trial this morning, Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals had Dougherty County Sheriff's Deputies check Thomas' sister's house on Warrior Court. They found Thomas, and handed him over Lee County deputies.

Thomas was taken to the courthouse, and his trial began this afternoon.

Virginia Carter plead guilty to misdemeanors reckless conduct and tampering with evidence and was sentenced to 24 months probation. She plead November 7, 2013.
