DCSS gears up for start of school year

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County School System Faculty and staff gathered Friday morning to gear up for the start of the school year.

Superintendent Dr. David Mosely, among several other DCSS leaders, gave words of encouragement at the Darton State College Cavalier Arena. The superintendent also discussed the high drop-out rate last year and is challenging the system to drastically drop those numbers.

"We have got to develop a strategy to keep these youngsters in school," said Mosely. "What do you think they'll do on the streets?"

"You educators. All of you are part of a system that helps our children learn, " said Mayor Dorothy Hubbard.

Mosely says 365 students dropped out of Dougherty County schools last year. The first day of school is next Monday, the 4th.
