Tropical Storm Bertha forms near Barbados

Tropical Storm Bertha has formed, the second storm of the 2014 hurricane season. Tropical Storm Bertha has formed, the second storm of the 2014 hurricane season.

(RNN) - The second storm of the 2014 hurricane season has formed.

Tropical Storm Bertha is located about 170 miles east of Barbados with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour. 

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia and Dominica, as well as for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has issued a tropical storm warning for the British Virgin Islands.

Little strengthening is expected in the next 48 hours. The storm is moving west northwest at 20 miles per hour.

Bertha is expected to produce anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain, with isolated amounts up to 5 inches across the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center.
