Albany woman charged with paying for car and wardrobe with stolen checks

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   An employee at an Albany restaurant is accused of stealing checks from the business.

Investigators say she cashed 15 checks for more than $13,000 to pay for her car and clothes.

Albany Police and District Attorney Office detectives raided 19 year old Sherrie McClendon's apartment Wednesday night.  She's charged with 15 counts of forgery and theft by taking.

Investigators say McClendon cashed checks stolen from Guang Zhou restaurant on North Westover Boulevard in April.  Police say she went on a spending spree and gave checks to three other people, including two co-workers.
