ARABI, GA (WALB) -

Georgia State Patrol investigators say Team USA track star Torrin Lawrence, who was killed in an interstate crash, was in the flow of traffic at the time.

The crash happened around 1:45 a.m. on July 28th near Arabi in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75.

Lawrence was waiting for help after he experienced a tire blowout. It was not clear why he was in the roadway.

His car was hit by a semi-truck after the blowout while it was still in the traffic lanes.

According to the traffic report, Lawrence was in the traffic lanes when his car was hit in the side by a semi-truck traveling south in the center lane.

Lawrence was hit by both cars in the crash and was thrown to the side of the road. He died at the scene.

In an interview, a cousin said Lawrence's mother was on the phone with him at the time of impact.

Lawrence was on his way home to Jacksonville, Florida.
