The woman was found at this location in Thomas County
THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -
The GBI is investigating after a woman was found on the side of a Thomas County road last night with severe head injuries.
GBI agents are trying to figure out whether 38-year old Jennifer Mims' injuries are the result of a bad accident or if there is more to the story, but neighbors say people don't normally walk the dark road at night.
Flags and paint mark the scene at 1537 Stewart Road today.
Authorities responded last night to a call from a passerby about a woman on the side of the road with severe head injuries.
"How the head injuries occurred, we're not sure. It could be vehicle related but we'll have to find that out at a later date," said Steve Turner, the Special Agent in charge for the GBI.
Neighbors are more skeptical though; they don't normally see people walking out there when it's dark.
"I don't think she was. Ordinarily people don't walk at night here," said James Martin.
Martin lives at the house right next to where Jennifer Mims was found.
He says the passerby told him someone was attempting to drag her out of the road.
"He said that when he got there, the man was dragging her out of the road. He asked him did he run over her and the man threw her down and ran and jumped in his truck and took off," said Martin.
But law enforcement say it could be an accident and aren't ready to name the man dragging the victim as a person of interest.
"We're not saying he's a person of interest right now because we don't know exactly what happened but we are trying to investigate all avenues," said Turner.
The man's name has not been given, but Turner says they have been in contact with him, asking him about the incident.
Mims remains in critical condition at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
