BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
This was an important weekend for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. For the fifth year, GBHS hosted the "Barking for Bucks" telethon on FOX6. In the end, thanks to the people of Central Alabama, the telethon raised a total of $72,172, surpassing their goal of $70,000.
FOX6's coverage of the telethon was hosted by Mickey Ferguson and Jeh-Jeh Pruitt on Saturday and Sunday. FOX6's weekend edition of Good Day Alabama, anchored by Karen Church, included pet-related stories and a how-to segment on baking dog treats at home.
The event featured adoptable pets, local celebrities and live interviews.
In conjunction with the two-hour telethon on Saturday, there was also a community festival at GBHS that included food vendors, children's activities and pet vendors. Pets that have been adopted from GBHS programs also joined in the fun at a reunion during the festival.
