NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The owner of a local pizza place said he was so determined to stop some crooks he decided to put himself in a dangerous position.

Police said four men approached the Express Pizza and Gyro at 1734 Jefferson St. at about 1:22 a.m. Owner Nodirkhon Sultonkhujaev said he was sitting outside when he was approached by a man with a handgun who demanded money.

"They said, 'Hey buddy, we need some money,'" said Sultonkhujaev. "I told them I don't speak English. They said, 'You speak English.' He said, 'Give me some money or I shoot you.' One guy stayed with me holding the gun. The other three guys got inside."

Police said the suspects fled in a vehicle. Sultonkhujaev said he followed after them in his car. Chasing them for several blocks, he said the men fired six shots at his vehicle and hit one of his tires. There were no injuries. Police said the suspects stopped on 21st Avenue near Knowles Street and fled on foot.

The suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts that were cinched closed, covering their faces.

Sultonkhujaev said Wednesday marks the second time he's been put in danger while just serving pizza. While working at Bellagio Pizza in August of last year, Sultonkhujaev said he was robbed at gunpoint by Keith Watkins. Watkins was later charged with a string of robberies.
