Missing Alzheimer's patient found safe

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

A missing Dougherty County man who suffers from Alzheimer's was found safe this morning on Williamsburg Road, not far from where he went missing.

71-year-old Ronald Sutton Hausman was last seen around 10 o'clock Tuesday night leaving his home in the 1700 block of Doug Lane, and was recovered in that vicinity.

Dougherty County Police have a message for families of others with special needs. “Because some of these people, sometimes even when they are located, they can't communicate who they are or where they live. And we do ask the community, if you ever come across someone like that, please call the police immediately. Don't try to take them somewhere else,” said Captain Thomas Jackson, of DCP.

He was last seen around 10 o'clock Tuesday night leaving his home on Doug Lane near the Liberty Expressway and was found not far away about 9:30 Wednesday morning.

Police say are asking family members to keep identification bracelets on people who suffer from dementia.

Overnight, Dougherty County Police officers were assisted by a Georgia State Patrol helicopter which used a FLIR thermal camera to search from the air.
