Young athletes taught to be champions off the field

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - Some young football players are learning the importance of winning off the field.

The south Georgia Hawgs Pop Warner league team is teaching players the importance of giving back to the community.

On Tuesday players spent hours at Pruitt Health Magnolia Manor assisted living facility in Moultrie playing games and serving lunch to the elderly.

They say it's their way of showing that youth in the community still care.

“To let them know that you're not just doing well on the field and getting rewarded for it, it's the work that you do off the field that you also get rewarded for,” said team president George Wallace

The team's season starts August 1st but this is already the second community event they've taken part in.
