Two suspects wanted in a manhunt that began Monday in Lowndes County have been arrested.
Jessie Atkinson and Justin Johnson were arrested around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and charged with receiving stolen property and obstruction of an officer, among other charges.
They were found Tuesday in the woods along Shiloh Road. That's the same area where law enforcement had been searching for them for nearly six hours on Monday. The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office said a resident in the area saw the two men and called 911.
Atkinson and Johnson are accused of stealing a dump truck from Macon and driving South on Interstate 75. A Lowndes County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to pull them over around exit 22 Monday morning, but they ditched along Shiloh Road after exiting the interstate and ran off.
"Our K9 unit deployed, was tracking them there," said Stryde Jones with Lowndes Co. Sheriff's Office. "One of the persons was apprehended by one of the K9 units, the second person was taken into custody when he was exiting the woods."
Atkinson has been booked into the Lowndes County Jail, but Johnson remains at South Georgia Medical Center, receiving treatment for mosquito bites.
The two also face charges in Bibb County where he truck was stolen.
