Sheriff warns of phone scam

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Sheriff's Investigators are warning people about a phone scam.

At least two people have reported receiving calls claiming to be from a legitimate loan company, but investigators want everyone to know it's a scam that aims to take financial information.

"[We] don't know where they are getting their information, but it was accurate in this woman's case," said Captain Craig Dodd with Dougherty Co. Sheriff's Office. "She had been turned down for a loan, and then they call you back and start phishing for information."

Investigators warn that the scam callers are very convincing, and can seem like they are a legitimate loan company. They are specifically targeting South Georgians.

If you have any information about these loan scam calls, contact the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office at 229-431-3222.
