Dougherty Co. teacher loses appeal for job

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A middle school teacher has lost an appeal for her job after a tribunal hearing with the Dougherty County School System.

The hearing on Tuesday was for Merry Acres Middle School teacher Felicia Ezeamii.

The school system did not renew her contract in April.

Flin Coleman, the school system attorney, said educators were concerned about her teaching skills early on in the 2013/2014 school year.

"There wasn't any one major incident like that, that there sometimes is in these matters. This is just, [educators were] trying to get her to improve and she didn't really do it," said Coleman.

He said even though school leaders met with Ezeamii, she continued to show poor classroom management and had problems interacting with other educators, parents, and students.

Her attorney, Charles Cox, said she had been improving and didn't deserve to lose her job.

Ezeamii began the 2013/2014 school year as a 6th grade teacher, but was moved to 7th grade within the first week of school.
