Valdosta Fire Department investigating overnight car fire

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - An early morning car fire in Valdosta is being investigated as an arson.

A citizen called police to report a car on fire in the 2900 block of Stallings Road around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Valdosta Fire Department and Lowndes County Fire and Rescue responded to help put out the blaze.

The car has been reported stolen from Remerton, but investigators are not sure exactly who may have set the car on fire or why.

"The car was burnt from one end to the other, but goin' through and finding the original point of origin, come to conclusion that the fire started inside the car but not in the motor area or anything to cause it tio be electrical," said Valdosta Fire Department arson investigator Lieutenant Dereck Willis.

Investigators do have some persons of interest they are speaking with, but so far no one has been arrested.
