Monsoon helps restrain northern AZ wildfires

WILLIAMS, AZ (CBS5) -

The monsoon has helped to temporarily curb four wildfires burning in northern Arizona.

The Sitgreaves Complex Fire about five miles northwest of Parks is currently at 4,040 acres. Smoke will continue to shift as monsoonal winds vary in the Williams Ranger District.

The McRae Fire five miles southeast of Tusayan stands at 3,486 acres. Smoke is anticipated to become highly visible from Highway 64.

Forestry officials said the Quaking Fire has grown to 331 acres. It's located about 40 miles southeast of Fredonia. Smoke is visible from the Rainbow Rim Trailhead and Highway 67.

The Kanabownits Fire stands at 303 acres. It's located one mile northeast of the historic Kanabownits Cabin on the Walla Valley Peninsula. Smoke is visible from the Rainbow Rim Trailhead and Highway 67.

The U.S. Forest Service has a fire information line with updates on the fire activity. The number is 928-635-8311.
