Tree limb knocks down power lines in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Power is now restored to some Valdosta homes after a tree limb knocked down a power line, causing a small fire Monday afternoon. It happened around noon in the 700 block of West Park avenue. A pine tree limb snapped and landed on a power line, causing the electrical box that the line was connected to to briefly spark and catch fire.

A resident on the street said she was getting ready to leave when she heard the limb snap and saw it fall on the power line.

"You could hear the popping of the breaking of the branch," said Sarah Jackson. "Then, it fell on [the] top line that's now layin' on the ground. It burned it up; it was like a sparkler."

No one was injured and Georgia Power was on scene by 12:45 p.m. to replace the line.
