Family homeless, officers injured after fire

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A mother and five children were burned out of their east Albany home Friday night, and two police officers were treated on the scene for mild smoke inhalation.

The fire started in a bedroom of the home on Alabama Avenue a little before 9:00 p.m.

Police officers were first on the scene and actually broke into the home because neighbors thought people were trapped inside. It turns out, no one was home.

Firefighters think an electrical short in a humidifier caused the fire.
