Sheriff Hancock leads Crisp Co. drug bust

Two suspects are in jail tonight after investigators seized nearly $10,000 worth of drugs.

It started when a tipster clicked on the crime stoppers tab on the Sheriff's Office website Thursday night and left a tip about drug activity on North 6th Street. Sheriff Billy Hancock went to check it out himself. After seeing a drug deal, he got in a car chase that ended when the suspects crashed.

Officers then searched the car and home. During the search, they seized marijuana plants, marijuana ready to sell, cocaine, painkillers and a gun.

"I'm a rubber meets the road type of Sheriff," Sheriff Billy Hancock said. "I'm not going to ask these men and women, who are great at what they do and who work hard ... Last night was a prime example, they all came out, they all rallied. They executed the search warrant on the house. I'm not going to ask them to do something that I won't do myself."

Gerard Powell and Betty Bly are in the Crisp County jail tonight on multiple drug charges. Sheriff Hancock says he expects more arrests.
